Community Fundraising Resources

Fundraising is FUN! As part of your fundraising efforts for Red Shoe Crew-Walk for Families, add community fundraising to your activities during the year leading up to September. Whether it’s baking, crafting, or dancing, pick whatever you do for FUN and do it to help sick or injured children and their families. It’s the perfect way to give back while doing something you love.

A community/third party fundraiser is defined as one where:

□ The event is planned and organized by an outside party (i.e. Red Shoe Crew Leader)

□ The revenue minus expenses is designated to Ronald McDonald House and the Red Shoe Crew-Walk for Families

□ A Community Fundraising Agreement MUST be completed for each fundraising event. Once the forms are received, Ronald McDonald House staff will review the event and get back to you with approvals

□ Ronald McDonald House Charities® Newfoundland and Labrador organization name is only used in promotional materials as the designated recipient of the proceeds from the event

□ Ronald McDonald House staff involvement is minimal in organizing, but will provide any needed promotional assistance (as per community fundraising agreement)

Community Fundraising

· BBQ – Celebrate summer with a BBQ event selling hot dogs and hamburgers.

· Bake or Craft Sale – Sell baked goods or crafts by setting up a table at fairs or local mall.

· Garage Sale – A rummage sale with odds and ends that you no longer need or want.

· Online Auction – Auction off items online. Online auctions come in many different formats,

· Recycling Drive – Raise money (and help the environment) by collecting beverage container donations in your community.

· Goods Bingo – A bingo game with the chance to win prizes, not money.

· Lotteries

· Keep the Change – Turn your small change into additional dollars for your fundraising efforts.

· Happy Hour Party – Invite all your friends (and their friends) to a happy hour and charge a small cover fee. Invite them to join your team or give additional donations. Host a raffle or a 50/50

· Birthday Celebration– Instead of gifts have your friends and family donate to RMHC  on your behalf.

· Neighborly Love – Stick a flyer in their mailboxes explaining why you’re raising money and ask them to donate.

A-Thons

· Skate-a-Thon – Similar to a fundraising marathon, participants sign up for a flat donation or take pledges for time spent making laps around the ice rink.

· Dance-a-Thon – Participants see how long they can stay on their feet on the dance floor. Teams register to dance in timed shifts, while friends and family pledge donations to encourage success.

· Yoga-a-Thon – Celebrate Springtime with individuals taking to their yoga mats. Contact a local yoga instructor to host a week or month of donation classes (whatever is feasible).

· Bike-a-Thon – Participants join teams and ride to a common goal (e.g. parents can ride with kids, teachers can ride with their classes, or teams can be made up of principles and coaches).

Tournament Events

· Baseball or Hockey tournament – Participants raise an entry fee to play. Teams are already established within the league so there is a lot less organizing to do for this kind of fundraiser.

· Golf Tournament – Whether your event is small or big, there are many different golfer team formats.

· Bowling Tournament – Funds can be raised through entry fees or pledges, or gather donations based on the number of points achieved.

Business/Workplace Campaigns

· Hot Breakfast Sale – Create a menu for a hot breakfast (pancakes, waffles, sausages, and eggs). Organizers bring in the items for a hot breakfast to sell to co-workers or host a “Breakfast with the Easter Bunny” event during the Easter holiday.

· Unwanted Gift Sale – After the holidays, hold an office “Garage Salè” with those gifts that you don’t like or need.

· Dress Down (Jeans or Pajama Day) – Make it a casual day and donate to show up at work in jeans or your pajamas.

· Office Massages – Contact a local massage therapist to see if they would donate their time, either for free or a discounted rate, to provide massages to employees at the office to collect donations.

· Corporate Matching Gift – Ask your company to match the amount of pledges you receive from your co-workers

· Office Fundraising Challenge – Challenge your office colleagues to raise funds for your team. Hand out fundraising envelopes and provide an award or incentive to the top fundraiser

· Ask a local store manager what the hot-selling item is and then ask if he or she would be willing to donate a percent of the sales from that particular item to your team for RMHC

· Curse Jar – Always a favorite! Place a curse jar in the office and whenever someone says a bad word they have to open up their wallet, grab a dollar and put it in the jar.
